This project consisted of making a series of three magazine spreads for the photographer Kinsco Bede’s work.
In her photography, Bede utilizes historical context in relation to how her own past family members were persecuted and surveilled by the Romanian government in the communist era. To take inspiration from her work’s themes, the post-revolutionary government’s simple and utilitarian design combined with elaborate native Romanian folk design was developed. In an attempt to keep the most focus on her photography rather than the design of the editorial spreads, lines that were reminiscent of a noir investigation tale draw the viewer’s eye to the photos used.
By organizing an article in a limited space while placing focus on the photography in these spreads, my experience in considerate editorial layout design was expanded upon.
